Apartment la Joya (meaning little gem!) is quietly and conveniently situated in the prestigious Parador area of the former fishing village of Nerja, one of Andalucia's more sophisticated and traditional coastal resorts, where a harmonious blend of new and old serve to create a charming and versatile, and much loved holiday destination. The apartment itself is just a few minutes walk to the steps leading to the award winning blue flag Burriana beach, lined with restaurants serving the famous speciality, paella, cooked outdoors in a large pan over a wood fire.Burriana is a beautiful beach, tranquil and fairly cosmopolitan by day, a little livelier by night. It's long and wide expanse of 'salt and pepper 'sand has sunbeds, umbrellas and pedalo hire and plenty of space, even in high season! There are also several other smaller coves and beaches all within walking distance - literally one for every day of the week! Returning to the apartment, a short stroll along the historic Calle carabeo brings you to the heart of Nerja and the picturesque Balcon de Europa, a palm fringed promenade which juts out over the sea on a rocky promontory, affording superb (and much photographed) views of the mediterranean and mountains beyond. This area has many fine restaurants, street cafes and bars, with a mouthwatering range of cuisine from tapas and regional specialities to Italian, Mexican, Greek and Chinese.In town, you can hire a horse and carriage to take you through the narrow cobbled streets with their white washed houses, where you will discover many interesting shops, traditional out of the way watering holes (!) and boutiques.Further afield the famous Nerja Caves are well worth a visit, as is the award winning white village, Frigiliana, both of which can be reached by bus or taxi - which are generally plentiful and reasonable. The caves are situated between Nerja and the neighbouring small white village of Maro, which has a very pleasant beach, made more so by the fact that there is no direct vehicle access, but well worth the walk!For the more athletic, bike hire, scuba diving, horseriding and golf are all available within Nerja OR nearby. For keen walkers there are countryside and riverbed walks here with the opportunity for birdwatching at the nearby natural parks.Nerja is more than a beach resort, it has a heart and quiet dignity which should appeal to all ages. Whilst sun worshippers and beach lovers are well catered for, those seeking to delve a little further into the true Andalucian experience, including it's colourful past heritage, will not be disappointed. There are mountain villages to explore and ancient churches to visit! As the area is so well documented, we do recommend a visit to your local book shop before you arrrive.YOUR ACCOMMODATIONApartamento La Joya is situated on the fifth floor, and has access by either staircase or lift. It's elevated position provides a great vantage point for admiring the beautiful mountain and sea views from a furnished balcony which also has views of the pool and garden area.From the balcony, patio doors lead into the lounge/dining room which has a dining table seating four, sideboard, comfy leather sofas, coffee table, satellite TV (some Uk channels) and DVD/CD player- please bring your own disks.A separate galley style fitted kitchen has microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and hob, (Note: No oven) however, with it's close proximity to all local facilities including many excellent restaurants, the kitchen has been designed for spending more time dining out in the reasonably priced eateries than spending all day in it! The apartment has two double bedrooms, with new divans in 2012. Both bedrooms share a modern tiled bathroom with corner shower cubicle. La Joya is also our personal holiday retreat! We have therefore endeavoured to create a simple yet stylish home from home environment, with emphasis on individual furnishings and decoration. Whilst situated in a popular area, this is far from being a "mass touristy complex" incorporating instead a pleasant balance of permanent residential and private second - home ownership, amongst both Spanish and other European nationalities. Outside: There is a large communal pool and smaller childrens pool with lawned surrounds and shady palm trees. An outside shower and toilets are also available at the pool side. Please note that car parking is on road only, and cannot be guaranteed in the immediate area!Airport TransfersWe are happy to arrange a taxi transfer for you and your party, and will confirm the cost prior to booking. If you prefer to make your own arrangements, taxis are also usually plentiful outside of the arrivals terminal and cost around 65 euros one way. Once you are in Nerja, you will find a taxi office near the apartment in the Calle Carabeo, useful for pre-booking any trips/journeys. Otherwise, it's generally fairly easy to summon a taxi when you are out and about! CHANGEOVER DAYS ARE FLEXIBLE To allow you the better choice of flights!
