At 1700 feet above sea level, Casa Los Petates enjoys an e levated position providing breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding valleys, villages and mountain ranges. Here you will be able to savour the simplicity of every-day rural life, our temperate climate, world reknown cuisine, and the friendliness of the Andalucian people! 
Originally built approximately 100 years ago, and situated in the "campo" (countryside) between the white villages of COMARES and COLMENAR, (an uncomplicated 45 minute drive from Malaga airport (no dirt tracks)! Casa Los Petates, nestles on the outskirts of the sleepy spanish hamlet of El Romo, here, the friendly locals still farm the land, harvesting olives and almonds, mules are still used for ploughing and goartherds roam the verges. 
There is a local bar, sometimes busy, sometimes quiet, depending on harvest times, here, little english is spoken but you can be assured of a warm welcome from Antonio and his wife Maria, who along with serving you a cold beer or glass of local wine can usually rustle-up a simple local dish - upon request! 
OUR OPINION:Whatever you plan to do during your stay, from snorkelling and ski-ing to birdwatching and walking, or simply soaking up the sun and RELAXING! we believe Los Petates has all the ingredients for a truly memorable and enchanting holiday
YOUR ACCOMMODATION
(partial view of our cortigo with steps to roof terrace) A perfect combination of modern day comforts and rustic authenticity has helped to ensure that Los Petates continues to grow in popularity, receiving many repeat visits!
OUTSIDE: There are several furnished sun terraces, including a breakfast area, bordered by mature eucalyptus trees. Whilst the large roof terrace (parents safety note: access is gated!) offers 360 degree views, and is a fabulous place, on a clear night, for plotting the stars and constellations, while enjoying an after dinner drink!

Just one of the wonderful Views from BBQ area There is a 6m x 4m South facing pool (no deep end so not suitable for diving but great for cooling off) relax in the pool whilst admiring the beautiful mountain vista. We have sun Beds with parasols and a supremely functional BBQ (winches up and down!)with sink and food preparation area complete with BBQ tools!

Contemplation corner! INSIDE: A spacious lounge/dining room affords superb mountain views. From here, double opening doors lead to the sun terracing, pool and BBQ area. The Lounge area has a new wrap around L shaped sofa, satellite TV and video, bookcase with selection of fictional novels, and (if you prefer a change from the sun)! English videos, including popular films/series and a kids selection. For cosy Winter evenings-in, we have recently installed a woodburning stove, initial supply of logs with our compliments, additional logs payable locally thereafter. The Dining area is furnished with a hand made rustic dining suite seating six and a Mexican style sideboard with our well received drinks tray! 
The traditional Andalucian style Kitchen/breakfast room still has the original ornate fireplace, and is well equipped with gas hob, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster, together with ample cutlery, utensils, dishes and cool box. There is also an automatic washing machine, iron and ironing board - if you really must! NB. For those of you who don't find washing up relaxing(!!) we plan to install a dishwasher for Summer 2016!!

There are two double bedrooms and a further twin room, each is individually decorated: The Green Room has a double bed and antique chest of drawers. A door leads to the Ensuite shower room which has a large walk-in shower and WC with close coupled suite and pedestal wash hand basin. 
The Second double bedroom is situated to the front of the property and has beautiful mountain views. It's ENSUITE has a walk in shower, pedestal wash hand basin and close coupled wc. 
A Twin bedroom adjoins and interconnects with this room, forming a family suite if required, and is therefore, Ideal for younger children (or could be used as a dressing room) NB: Access to the twin room is only currently via the second bedroom. 
FURTHER ACCOMMODATION NOTE: Whilst the house is of a typically one storey design, there are some steps inside and outside the property, which may not be suitable for the very young, elderly or infirm. Please ask if you think this may effect you.

FREQUENT VISITOR, JUDY BANKS, GIVES HER OPINION OF HOLIDAYING AT LOS PETATES. "What is the attraction of Los Petates���..? Could it be the beautiful view as you take your first steps up to the villa on your arrival or, as you come out of the front door first thing in the morning? Its breathtaking The villas beautiful, quiet location The eagles soaring overhead, always take your binoculars. The cooling, refreshing pool The whispers of the trees as you take your first nap of the day The Bacardi and coke from the outside fridge and bar.! Sometimes it�s just too much to walk the short distance to the kitchen Afternoon tea as you sit by the side of the pool taking a welcome break from the heat of the day. The refreshing shower in the evening before you dine alfresco. The warm sultry evenings The barbeques the best we have ever used. Self-catering never! More like relax, easy, affordable luxury dining. The little eyes twinkling throughout the hills as you stand on the rooftop admiring the distant village-light views at night. The myriad of stars. The well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack that awaits your arrival, always a delight. The little white villages of Colmenar and Riogordo, where you pay inexpensive prices for local produce and goods. The trip to Eroskis for the all important main shop,well worth a visit to stock up. If you can manage to steal yourself away , take a trip out and about, the coast is only an hour away (Torre del Mar) where a large market is held every Thursday or a little further along the coast is Nerja,a beautiful beach surrounded by the clear sparkling sea Or for a winter retreat The log burner that warms you right through as the evening becomes cool it adds the most beautiful atmosphere to the already cosy, traditional Spanish villa. To sit at the old rustic dining table, candles glowing for that special evening meal. The walks that are achievable in the cooler temperatures. A trip to Comares be brave it is well worth the adventure. So whats the attraction of los Petates? well you decide!
